Unobtrusive SWFObject 2.0

Tuesday, March 25, 2008

swfobject SWFObject Javascript is a script used to insert Flash content in Web pages. Its main function is to eliminate the demand for activation of the control of Microsoft Internet Explorer (which, in any event, is being discontinued operations - see here) and, more interestingly, the ability to verify and install the Flash Player where required. SWFObject can be considered a good alternative to install kit / detect provided by Adobe itself and generate inside of your Flash (in all its versions). With version 2.0, improves SWFObject its performance and its use. As indicated on the official documentation, moved on Google Code, the news release of this are so numerous that it is NOT compatible with previous versions. This translates into a de facto complete revision of the Code for those who decide to upgrade a previous version SWFObject to 2.0.

The script is now aligned to the latest standard, both syntactic and from the "non-intrusive." It supports all previous features, such as the rapid installation of Flash Player, with a code more clear and easy to use. The passage of the parameters, for example, from JavaScript to Flash Player (and therefore to our movie) is now much clearer and more versatile. Also introduced were two main modes: static and dynamic, according to the page type and design process that we are doing.

Really useful and bon fact is the online tool that generates code SWFObject for us.

April 2008: Farewell to finalize dell'ActiveX Flash

Friday, November 9, 2007

Blog Internet Explorer (IE Automatic Component Activation (Changes to IE ActiveX Update)) has announced a major change that introns done in April 2008 with the release of important patches, including the long-awaited Service Pack 3. Preview, however, will be available by December 2007 from the center to download Internet Explorer.

In 2006, Microsoft had introduced a patch in Internet Explorer that blocked the interaction with ActiveX components in a Web page. This "freeze" in the end is resolved in the explicit request - directly to the user / browser - to activate the (movie Flash, QuickTime, etc ...) through the space bar or click of a mouse.

Over time, however, were introduced a number of shortcuts to avoid this annoying request, the official shortcuts (such as proposed by the Macromedia Flash and Apple QuickTime) and unofficial (SWFObject or UFO, for example - also see unobtrusive Flash Objects).
According to Microsoft developers will not change anything in April 2008 in the "old" sites using shortcuts, but it is good to look at the blog of Internet Explorer for special cases.

Microsoft back then and now, and actually we had requested some 'everyone that this was idiocy of activation of control, "patch" taken to a shortage in the management of ActiveX (TAG OBJECT) rather than flaws in the components themselves. In other browsers, in fact, the use of the Plugin is accompanied by stronger TAG EMBED. Last note:

In the coming weeks, we'll be updating the MSDN article with descriptions of the new behavior. Keep an eye out here for when the preview goes live.
