Firefox 3.5.7: how to fix the defect of the rounded edges of an image

Sometimes you just move an item, changing the point of view, to solve a problem seems insurmountable. And when one has to do with compatibility between browsers and CSS, inventing solutions "spectacular" (stunts would say) is on the agenda. , per Safari e Google Chrome. What I show you an easy way to apply rounded corners to images using -moz-border-radius , which is available for Mozilla FireFox and -webkit-border-radius , Safari and Google Chrome.

5 extensions for FireFox to have dedicated to Web Developer

One of the huge advantages of Mozilla FireFox , compared to other browsers, it was, it still is, to possess a large amount of free extensions that allow you to customize and extend. As a web developer I can not - now - to do without some useful extensions that help me in the construction, inspection and maintenance of Web pages

Creating Desktop Applications with Google Chrome and Firefox?

Google Chrome allows you to create desktop applications from a Web page? In fact, as shown in the menu item is only allowed to create a shortcut to a link which - in turn - open a window without address bar and without all the "frills" of the browser. This does not mean that we have created a desktop application, we have just created a link to the same Google Chrome mode - so to speak-chrome-less.

Feature simle, but more ambitious, had already been proposed by the Mozilla Foundation in 2007, via Project Prism . This is certainly the most versatile and articulate, even accompanied by a useful extension that allows you to create desktop applications menu of FireFox, the same way as Google Chrome .

However, both solutions are far from technology Adobe AIR . Before anyone confuses it should be noted the substantial differences between a desktop shortcut that opens a window with no menus, and a desktop application and its true.
Adobe AIR , in fact, unlike the solutions offered by Google Chrome and Prism allows you to:

  • Virtually complete access to the system running the application with the ability to read and write files. Possibility to extend its functionality via dll (dynamic link library), extensions and third-party products such as SHU Player (see Deploy Adobe AIR: AIR Badge from a SHU Player )
  • Manages the application as the other system applications: Install and Uninstall

FireFox: profile management

Mozilla Firefox allows you to manage multiple profiles , which is useful to those who, like me, develop web sites and requires a number of extensions dedicated to debugging and analysis of Web pages via the use of profiles you can configure different settings FireFox:

Firefox saves your personal information such as bookmarks, passwords and preferences in a file group called profile located in a different location than the program files for Firefox.

On Windows Vista ( see here for other operating systems) can access the profile management from the command Esegui using:

1
firefox-ProfileManager

Profile Management

One of the advantages in the use of profiles is that you can have a FireFox to browse, so without all the toolbars and extensions for debugging and FireFox to develop, together with FireBug and all other development tools.

Flick and Flock

If there is one thing that Mozilla browsers are known to do well!

Flock

Flock is a browser with a whole host of features to social networks and blogs. Available for Mac, Linux and Windows offers a new browsing experience for those who, like myself, have multiple accounts on social networking sites (FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube, ...) and also wants to manage the RSS feeds so smooth and fast.

Installation

If you have FireFox (you should not uninstall) all your settings can be transferred Flock during the first use cookies, passwords, bookmarks, you name it. After using Flock for a few minutes, I was tempted to remove the great FeedReader, useless given the excellent management of the Feed the Flock.

Features

In addition to having many features similar to Firefox, which makes it immediately accessible, Flock allows you to:

  • Blog Editor
Simple but effective editor for publishing posts on our blog. It supports both personal blog platforms like WordPress, Blogger and Live Journal. Excellent function "notes", the Web Clipboard, present in various sections of the browser
  • People Panel
By simple Drag & Drop you can instantly share links and images with our contacts, recovered from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or Flickr
  • Media Bar
Flock is able to automatically recognize many features when you enter a Web site (blog or social network). For example, entering a YouTube or Flickr will apera Media Bar on the top where you can scroll horizontally movies and photos allowing you to send or copy the content immediately
  • Search Engine
The research management is fully customizable (as already happens in FireFox thanks to the Open Search standard), allowing to easily add a number of alternative search engines, both from a list proposed on the site of Flock is through the automatic recognition in this a site
  • Plugins and extensions
Even Flock as FireFox already has many extensions, a weapon that has proved successful because of FireFox. Some are specifically for Flock even if you can find some "porting" of known extensions for FireFox
  • Handling the photos
Thanks to the Photo Uploader, you can use an internal application to Flock to quickly send our photos on Flickr or Facebook.

Where Javascript loses

It is now only a matter of time, Mozilla has opened the way with JavaScript 1.7 . However, it is clear that the current JavaScript has limitations. For example, you can not protect you from a Reverse Engineering (see Reverse Engineering: the compressors of code ), we can make life difficult for those who want to scrutinize our code, but prevent it is highly unlikely.

The ECMA is based on which the current Javascript is unsatisfactory. Coming from Java, C + + 3.0 or ActioneScript, is noticeably uncomfortable in dealing with variables without specifying the type.

The structure is also primitive objects, with various differences in implementation (that will increase) in the different versions of the browser. Libraries like Prototype are designed precisely to overcome some limits of extension of the DOM, in addition to implement efficiently and cross browser Ajax (XMLHttpRequest).

Council to keep informed, to follow the evolution of Mozilla / Adobe / ActionScript on: ECMAScript 4
See the documentation of JavaScript 1.7: New in JavaScript 1.7

Xopus: WYSIWYG XML editor

Xopus is an XML editor (HTML) in WYSIWYG mode working inside the browser. I had already noticed some time ago, thanks to an article released on Ajaxian . I mention this now because it remains an attractive proposition in view web2.0/editor. It is an interesting experience! Xopus has developed really well (with Italian support), with an excellent implementation of the context menu, although still not fully cross-browser, the current release 3.1 is supported only Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 6 and 7 ) although developers have promised as soon as at least a version compatible with Firefox (February 1 has been released in alpha version 3.1.1 compatible with Firefox 2.0 +).

As discussed elsewhere, the question of compatibility (cross browser) via the browser, and penalizes slows the development of tools that, even without resorting to special technologies like Adobe Flash or Java applet, could bring a significant contribution to the Community! Conttibuto prevented - at last - from unnecessary internal battles of the current producers of browsers: IE, Firefox, Opera, Mozilla, Safari, ...!

Viewing the demo you can see something more than just HTML editors, to put the word poor. Xopus proposes both the traditional structure of the editor, and advanced features of Microsoft Word style. It is possible, in fact, inserted within the page real smart objects that meet certain characteristics, making Xopus a particular case.

As indicated on the website:

Xopus is a good solution for any business That has a back-end content management system and front-to-end publishing systems and Therefore Which two systems use the examination information. That structure to information, to make ends meet Both, Therefore is a must.

Poete watch the video demonstration that introduces the advanced editing features. Also you can try a demo directly.

Browser War: the war continues?

A Sunnyvale, California, brings together Yahoo to Silicon Valley WebBuilder Mike Shaver of Mozilla, Chris Wilson, Microsoft's IE team, and Lie of Opera Hoon, to discuss on the current were the eternal war between browsers.

Be emphasized are the words of Mike Shaver of Mozilla:

Do not look to the W3C for the Future

And criticism of Apple's non-attendance:

They refused to send someone Saying That "we are busy writing software."

That, among other things, is 10 miles from where the meeting was held!
